6 Months

POSTED ON December 19, 2014 IN Life Adventures

nettiodesigns_Ryan-6months-all

Ryan turned 6 months on Monday and oh man, it’s hard to believe he’s already half a year old. It’s gone by in the blink of an eye and yet, at the same time, it’s hard to remember what life was like before he arrived.

If I could sum up the past six months, it’d go a little something like this: Parenthood? Awesome. Breastfeeding? HARD. First 3 months? ROUGH. Baby smiles and giggles? My new number one fave. 6 Months? Best age ever.

At 6 months, Ryan is rolling up a storm, grabbing everything in sight (usually with a bee line to his mouth) and even cut his first tooth this past week.

nettiodesigns_Ryan-6months-1and6

In some ways I’m in shock at how fast these early milestones have come. Weren’t you just born yesterday, little guy?

But at the same time I LOVE it.

I love how much he interacts with us now.

I love watching the little wheels in his head turn as he tries to figure out the world.

I love that it’s given me a new appreciation for all the skills we use everyday without thinking about them.

I mean, when was the last time you thought about how you’d roll from front to back? Or marvel at the wind in your face?

Right now as I write this he’s giggling at a tag on his play mat. A tag, people. Seriously, this kid kills me.

I’m convinced six months is the age most people actually think of when they think “baby.” They’re cute, they’re fun and they’re not quite mobile enough yet to be a total handful. Six months is hands down my favorite age so far and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Happy half-birthday little buddy. We’re so glad to have you here with us.

P.S. Clearly stripes are a fave of mine. And green & blue. But that’s probably no surprise if you’ve ever seen my own wardrobe, haha.

Holiday Gift Guide For Tech-Lovin’ Memory Keepers & Digital Scrapbookers

POSTED ON December 17, 2014 IN Memory Keeping

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure 90% of my family and friends have no clue what I’m talking about when it comes to digital scrapbooking. Sure, most of the time they know it involves a computer and they occasionally see the end result – but how exactly I get from A to B? Not so much.

Which makes this tricky this time of year when it comes to gift giving and list making.

So I thought I’d do a round up of some of my favorite things to give those perplexed gift-givers in your life a helping hand. Everything on this list is either something I own or something I wish I owned, so you know it’s good stuff.

Holiday Faves 2014 Mini Album | Digital Foundation Pages

POSTED ON December 5, 2014 IN Holiday Faves 2014

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-0

You know what my favorite part of Holiday Faves is? Finally getting to put together my pages! Since it’s December 5th already, I’ve been feeling a little behind the eight ball in getting my album ready as I’ve been busy with the Holiday Faves Mini Class, but that’s exactly what I love about Holiday Faves. If I were doing a daily holiday album, I’d already be five days behind and stressed out but instead I know I’m exactly where I need to be. Love that.

This year for my hybrid mini album I’m using a Studio Calico Handbook 6×8 ring album I purchased last year (seen here) with a mix of single 6×8 page protectors and pocket page protectors to hold additional photos and elements.

Since this year is Ryan’s first Christmas, I’m also thinking I may reprint the digital pages as a photo book that would be easier for him to flip through when he gets older. Kind of depends on how my album comes together this year, but that’s one of the many perks of digital – duplicate copies without duplicating the work.

I admit this year I really struggled with choosing my digital scrapbooking supplies because there are SO many good ones out there. But I finally narrowed it down to these four kits from Zoe Pearn & Kristin Cronin-Barrow (all available at Sweet Shoppe Designs): Memorable: Christmas, A Homemade Christmas, Christmas Spirit: Comfort & Joy and Life Stories: Christmas (and a paper or two from A Fairy Tale Christmas: Noel).

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves14-Foundation-kits-new

Once I had my supplies chosen, I got to work putting my pages together using the Holiday Faves Mini Album templates. I also planned out the order of my pages using the interactive Holiday Faves planner (which is included as part of the Holiday Faves mini class). This is the first time I’ve planned out my album this way and I have to say – it’s was so much fun moving all the tiny thumbnails around! As you can see, I’ve left a lot of blank pages in the album – those will either be filled up with photos, paper scrapbooking pages or I’ll combine some of the pages back to back and remove the blank pages altogether if I don’t need them.

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves14-Foundation-planner-text

Since I haven’t printed out my digital pages yet (that’s on my to-do list for this weekend), I thought I’d share the digital versions of my Holiday Faves Mini Album pages with you. I love this stage of the process because it’s really when the templates start to come alive.

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-1

Since I’m planning to print out a copy of my album as a photo book once the album is done, I’m planning to add my journaling and photos to the Holiday Faves journal cards digitally rather than handwritten like I’ve done in the past. I’m also planning to add digital elements at the bottom of each card but I’m waiting to do that until I know how much journaling I’ll have on each card.

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-2

One new thing I’m trying this year is printing several of the accent pages as black text on white card stock. I’ve been loving the mix of black and white lately and I think it’ll add a nice dose of contrast and balance to all the patterned digital pages.

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-3

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-4

One thing I do know about my album is that the order of some of the pages will definitely change and evolve as I add photos and stories to the album. Plus I’m pretty sure I don’t need three pages with red polka dots in the last six pages. I plan to keep my interactive album planner updated as I create the album so when I go to print my photo book after Christmas, I’ll know exactly what order to put the pages.

nettiodesigns_HolidayFaves-DigitalFoundations-5

And that’s a quick look at my foundation pages for my Holiday Faves Mini Album this year! I can’t wait to start capturing my Holiday Faves and adding actual photos and stories to the pages – that’s when the real fun begins.

How To Use the Holiday Faves Templates to Create Your Own Holiday Mini Album

POSTED ON November 25, 2014 IN Holiday Faves, Holiday Faves 2014

As I mentioned yesterday, Holiday Faves 2014 is here! So today I wanted to share with you a bit more about how you can use the Holiday Faves 6×8 Mini Album Templates to create your very own holiday mini album or photo book.

The idea behind the Holiday Faves mini album templates is you use them to create the foundation of your Holiday Faves mini album and then add your own photos and journaling during the holiday season.

But how do you actually use the templates to do that?

Well here’s a closer look at how it works:

nettiodesigsn_Holiday-Faves-How-To-full

For a quick refresher, here’s what this year’s templates look like:

nettiodesigns_HolidayFavesMini14-preview

The Holiday Faves mini album templates include four types of pages which can be mixed and matched to create your album: Foundation Pages, Accent Pages, Journaling Pages and Photo Pages.

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-How-To-folder

Let’s dig a little deeper into the difference between all these pages and when you’d use them in your album:

Foundation Pages

The Foundation Pages are designed to be the pages on which you build the well, foundation, of your album. All of the foundation page templates are made of simple geometric designs with the idea being that you clip digital papers to them to pretty them up, print them, and then add photos, memorabilia, journaling or accents to them during the holiday season.

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-Mini-Album-How-To-Foundation

Accent Pages

The Accent Pages go along with the Foundation Pages in building your album, but rather than adding anything to these pages during the holiday season, they’re designed to stand on their own as is and be the pretty jewels of your album.

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-Mini-Album-How-To-Accent

Journaling Pages

The journaling pages are where you’ll add the stories and photos behind your Holiday Faves or Holiday Memories. You can choose to print these pages ahead of time and add your photos and journaling later by hand or you can wait and print these as you go after you’ve typed up your story.

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-Mini-Album-How-To-Journal

Photo Pages

The final piece of the Holiday Faves mini album puzzle are the Photo Pages. These pages are designed to make it quick and easy for you to add photo collages of your favorite holiday photos. Use them to support your Holiday Faves journaling pages or add them into the album on their own.

Putting All the Pages Together

Now that you know about all four of the types of page templates, how do you go about actually combining all these different types of pages to create your album?

Well it’s really it’s up to you!

All of the Holiday Faves 6×8 Mini Album Templates are designed to be completely mix and match so there’s really no “right” way to combine them.

But a few things you might want to consider as you’re ordering your pages are:

  • making sure to leave room to add photos and/or memorabilia
  • how often you want to include journaling
  • whether you’re planning to add additional non-digital pages into your album as well (like page protectors, clear overlays, pockets, etc)

To give you an idea of how you’d can combine these pages together to create your album, here’s a quick before and after using my own Holiday Faves stories and photos.

Holiday Faves Mini Album Foundation Before:

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-Mini-Album-How-To-Before

As you can see, I’ve included 2 Accent Pages, 1 Foundation Page, 1 Journaling Page and 1 Photo Page. I’ve left the back of the Foundation Page blank so you can add a 6×8 photo later and while I’ve added digital elements to the journal page, I’ve left the photo and journaling areas empty so I can add my story later.

Here’s a look at what these same six pages might look like after I start adding in my photos and stories during the holiday season:

Holiday Faves Mini Album Foundation After:

nettiodesigns_Holiday-Faves-Mini-Album-How-To-After

Here you can see how I’ve left the accent pages alone but added a smaller photo to the front of the foundation page and a full-size 6×8 photo to the back. I also added my photo and journaling to my Holiday Faves #1 journaling card and added a series of photos to the photo collage page.

I hope that gives you some ideas of how you can use the Holiday Faves 6×8 Mini Album templates to create your own awesome Holiday Faves mini album!
